Bulletproof Coffee: Fat Burner or Just Fancy Fat?

The first time I heard about Bulletproof coffee was during a podcast. The hosts laughed it off, and honestly, I did too. Butter in coffee? Seemed like a gimmick that would fade fast. But fast forward to now, and it’s still around. Celebs are sipping it, influencers are selling it, and people are blending butter and oil into their coffee like it’s some kind of magic.

So is there actually something to it?
Bulletproof coffee was created by Dave Asprey, a guy who calls himself a biohacker. The original recipe is simple. Brew your coffee, toss in grass-fed butter and MCT oil, blend it up, and call it breakfast. Supposedly, it boosts focus, burns fat, and keeps you full for hours.
Here’s the reality. Butter contains something called CLA, which has been hyped for fat loss. But studies show the results are barely noticeable. MCT oil is more promising since it’s quickly absorbed and may help raise ketones, which your body can use for energy on a low-carb diet. That said, it works best if you’re overweight or already eating keto. If not, don’t expect miracles.
What Bulletproof coffee really does is curb appetite. That’s the biggest benefit. Fat digests slowly, so it keeps you full. That’s useful if you’re someone who snacks too much or struggles with hunger in the mornings. But a single cup can pack over 400 calories with zero protein, fiber, or vitamins. So while it fills you up, it doesn’t do much else nutritionally.
It’s not bad if it fits your routine, but it’s not a magic fat-burning potion either. If you’re going to replace your breakfast with something, it should probably offer more than just fat and caffeine.
As always, it’s a good idea to consult a health professional before starting any new nutrition plan. If you’re looking for personalized advice on your diet or fitness goals, I’m here to help you create a plan that works for you.
